But what are the possibilities for reusing concrete elements such as hollow core slabs directly in new construction? CRH Concrete has tested this in a trial carried out in collaboration with, amongst others, the Danish Technological Institute and Roskilde Municipality.<\/p>\n<h2>PROMISING TEST RESULTS<\/h2>\n<p>The hollow core slabs were cut free from an existing building that was due to be demolished. They were then tested to determine whether the slabs could be reused in their complete form. The tests were carried out on CRH Concrete&#8217;s test rig in Viby Sj\u00e6lland, which is normally used for spot checks of CRH Concrete&#8217;s own production.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 We have run some shear tests in the same way as we do with our standard production. This has given us some values indicating the strength of the hollow core slabs. One of the slabs was very comparable to our PE slab and met the strength requirements of the test, says Lars Reimer, Technical Director at CRH Concrete.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The other slab was a little more difficult to compare, because it had a cross-section that we do not know entirely, and it was 195 mm in height, whereas ours are 180 mm or 220 mm. This means that we cannot compare the slabs directly in terms of strength. One of the challenges is ensuring that reused hollow core slabs do not have damage that differs from that found on the tested slabs. In addition, it requires a more extensive logistics setup, and it may also be necessary to reinstate some of the slabs if they have too many holes in them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 It is difficult, because there is a great deal of planning involved in the task. Should one create a stock of hollow core slabs from old buildings and register and store them at a central warehouse? It might then be possible to find hollow core slabs with a strand pattern that matches the design and cut them to length. But it may be that they need to be reinstated because there are too many holes, or new holes need to be made. Or do you discard those that have too many holes? Perhaps labelling or some form of material passport could be an option? There are therefore many things that will need to be addressed, explains Lars Reimer.<\/p>\n<h2>SIGNIFICANT POTENTIAL<\/h2>\n<p>Despite the challenges, Lars Reimer sees significant potential in the reuse of hollow core slabs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Overall, the result is encouraging. Reusing an element in almost its full size represents by far the best form of reuse that we can practise. And that is actually the main point here \u2014 that we can now reuse an element in almost its complete form. Det stillede nye krav til produktionen, og der er blevet regnet, testet og afformet indtil man opn\u00e5ede det \u00f8nskede resultat.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Med dag-til-dag-levering af C20-betonelementer har vi nu mulighed for at tilbyde et andet produkt, hvor man tidligere ville have brugt C35-elementer i alle v\u00e6gge. Dermed bliver CO\u2082-aftrykket i byggeriet jo ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6sentligt anderledes, siger Camilla Dyring.<\/p>\n<p>For Ingcon har det v\u00e6ret en l\u00e6rerig oplevelse at blive involveret i selve udviklingen af elementerne.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Det har v\u00e6ret meget interessant at f\u00f8lge materialeudviklingen og de udfordringer, der har v\u00e6ret og at se, hvordan de blev l\u00f8st. Selve leveringen af C20-betonelementerne er ogs\u00e5 forl\u00f8bet planm\u00e6ssigt. De er ankommet til byggepladsen til aftalt tid. Og det gr\u00f8nne er netop et udtryk, som b\u00e5de arkitekt og bygherre meget gerne vil have fremh\u00e6vet i byggeriet. Derfor er der i byggeriet indbygget automatisk vanding af blomsterkasser, som f\u00e5r vand fra et sindrigt system, der er indbygget i betonen fra starten.<\/p>\n<p>Husene har et udvendigt <a href=\"https:\/\/betonelement.dk\/betonelementer\/soejler\/\">s\u00f8jlesystem<\/a>, som er med til at give bygningerne et lyst og let pr\u00e6g. Nordstern), er det en opgave, som har kostet lidt ekstra overvejelser, og alle r\u00e5dgivere har v\u00e6ret i sving. Han har tidligere fortalt til ELEMENTET, hvordan man endte med en l\u00f8sning, hvor vandet f\u00f8res ud mellem altanpladerne og tr\u00e6d\u00e6kket, og hvor altankasserne er integreret i elementerne. Paul S\u00f8gaard kalder sparring med sine r\u00e5dgivere for afg\u00f8rende.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; At bygge med fokus p\u00e5 b\u00e6redygtighed d\u00e6kker over mange ting, og ofte handler det om at have styr p\u00e5 materialerne meget tidligt i projekteringsprocessen inden byggeriet. Ved at inddrage dygtige r\u00e5dgivere fra begyndelsen sikrer vi os, at der bliver et flow i arbejdsprocesserne, og at vi kommer bedst muligt fra start, siger projektchefen.<\/p>\n<p>I dag er et betonhus ikke bare et betonhus. St\u00e5lv\u00e6rnene p\u00e5 husene er i samme nuance overalt; det samme g\u00e6lder de tr\u00e6d\u00e6k, som bl.a. udg\u00f8r bunden i hver terrasse. Derudover er der forskellige spor og m\u00f8nstre i de <a href=\"https:\/\/betonelement.dk\/betonelementer\/facader\/\">hvide facadeelementer i beton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mikkel Hune forklarer, at man har valgt en sammenh\u00e6ng i materialerne, som g\u00f8r, at f.eks. beton er synligt overalt. Betonbel\u00e6gningen ude foran f\u00f8lges hele vejen ind i bygningen, til man st\u00e5r ved sin hovedd\u00f8r, men udtrykket bliver mere forfinet og nuanceret, jo t\u00e6ttere man er p\u00e5 boligen.
