Together with more than 20 other players in the Danish concrete and construction industry,\u00a0CRH Concrete\u00a0has joined the Sustainable Concrete Initiative. The stated goal is clear: the CO\u2082 footprint from concrete construction is to be reduced by up to 50 per cent by 2030. This is ambitious, but not without good reason.<\/p>\n
All new construction, including with concrete, has an impact on the environment and therefore on the climate. Every time we build, it affects our surroundings \u2014 in the form of waste and CO\u2082 emissions, amongst other things. We therefore have a great responsibility to think responsibly, and we are confident that further improvements can still be achieved without compromising either quality or economics. At the same time, it makes very good sense to share the work and the responsibility \u2014 the more of us there are, the better we can rise to the challenge.\u200b<\/p>\n

A focus on raw materials<\/p>\n

The Zero Waste Project<\/p>\n

But the responsible mindset begins before the construction site \u2014 already in production, it is important to use resources correctly. The goal is not to use as much concrete as possible. The goal is to use it correctly. We continuously work to optimise the use of our raw materials.<\/p>\n
A good example is the Zero Waste project, in which we participate in a working group under Dansk Beton. Here we have put internal reuse into a system. During production, up to two per cent of the concrete ends up as residual waste, as it is left over from the casting process. A large proportion of this two per cent is reused in subsequent castings, and the finished construction is neither more expensive nor less stable as a result of using recycled concrete.<\/p>\n
